Dance training at WAAPA prepares students for what is a demanding and highly competitive profession. All courses, undergraduate and postgraduate are both challenging and rigorous. Acceptance to LINK Dance Company requires young dancers with enquiring minds and bodies and a high level of commitment and determination. The outcome of a year spent with LINK result in ‘the edge’ at future professional auditions. A year spent with an ensemble of equally motivated emergent performers enables each dancer to individually and collectively explore the joys and travails learnt from touring, creating new works, adapting to new venues, managing injuries/injury-prevention; in other words, how to succeed in the field of contemporary dance. The most obvious advantage of acceptance into LINK Dance Company is the opportunity to establish networks and close links with the professional dance world. Contacts and partnerships provide graduate dancers with valuable opportunities to engage with emerging /established dance artists, choreographers and company directors. LINK dancers are also encouraged to think about forming their own new companies and projects.
